Randall Library ADA Ramp Upgrades

UNC Wilmington | Wilmington NC

PROJECT DETAILS

Atlas Engineering was asked to design new handicap access ramps for the Randall Library at UNC-Wilmington. The access ramps were constructed on a raised concrete patio walkway that surrounded the perimeter of the building. The existing concrete slab had to be removed, additional footing added, the steel support structure modified, and a new concrete ramp installed. A new ramp on-grade was designed as well to provide access to the raised perimeter patio.

Construction had to be completed in a narrow window of a lull in library operations. Engineers from Atlas inspected the project a key steps of the construction to ensure design details were followed in areas that would be inaccessible as construction progressed and to keep the project schedule advancing rapidly.
