Moore Square Middle School Slab Settlement Investigation

Wake County Public Schools System | Raleigh, NC

PROJECT DETAILS

Atlas was hired to investigate the structural safety, long-term settlement, and waterproofing problems at Moore Square Middle School.

The school buildings had been damaged at several locations by settlement of wall foundations and floor slabs, and by water infiltration along the base of exterior walls. Load-bearing concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls had cracked, and door openings at CMU walls had gone out-of-square, jamming doors. Floor slabs had subsided and cracked at the cafeteria and at several classrooms and utility rooms.

Atlas performed its assessments and created designs for repairs. These repairs were in process while school was in session, and all efforts were taken so that the students and staff were safe and had no disruption of school activities.
